Tip #2 - Lifestyle Changes!

Greetings & Salutations Energy Heroes!

Dan the Solar Man here from Carbon Recall.

In our quest to help everybody achieve energy independence, Carbon Recall has put together a list of 10 tips that you can easily implement around your own home to help you Achieve Net Zero!

Last month we covered low-flow shower heads as our first tip. This month, we are covering LifeStyle Changes! The unpleasant, annoying practice of turning off lights, TVs, and other appliances when not in use.

We know, not the most glamorous or highest cost-saving topic, and one that we hear about ALL the time! Believe it or not, though, these basic practices can save you approximately 10% on your electricity. In a quest to reach zero electricity where every bit counts, these practices can really add up in the long run.

When you pair this with something like a smart thermostat to monitor your heating and cooling during times that the house is not occupied, you can add an additional 8% savings.

It may not sound like much up front, but a 10-15% reduction in energy usage goes a long way in achieving energy independence.

Here is a list of the top 7 lifestyle changes you can make today, to have a lasting impact on your energy profile!

  • Turn off lights when not in use

  • Unplug appliances when not in use (computers / TV)

  • Take shorter showers

  • When possible, wash clothes with cold water

  • Switch to a smart thermostat

  • Use a dishwasher instead of hand washing

  • Hang dry clothes

For those interested, here is a great Youtube video explaining some of these ideas in greater depth.

Until next time, Energy Hero's!
